Plastic notes
What if our fascination with the substance plastic lies not just in the convenience of disposing of it, but in the symbolic act of discarding more than just the material itself? Could it be that we are, on a deep level, enamored with the existential idea of unburdening ourselves from parts of ourselves to a point of denial of who we are? We are creatures not only infused with micro-plastics, we are also deeply infused with love/hate relationships, fundamentally, in every aspect of our daily lives. We love/hate our phones and computers, for instance, for how they disembody us, yet rely on them more and more for survival. Imagine if disparate and shadow parts both cherished and denied become accepted as inherently human, then what? What if by embracing these elementally paradoxical conditions, could we fundamentally change how we approach the plastic catastrophe?
