Key Frame, 2018
Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, CO, June 1 – October 14, 2018
Artist Statement
The title Key Frame is a reference to making animated films. Key frames are locations on a timeline that mark the beginning and end of a transition, so in media production key frames are used to make smooth transitions in what will appear to be seamless movement. I work with all of those words in my mind when I compose a planted art work, I work with time, transitions, movement. The people experiencing my work can pop in at any point in the timeline and
be part of the sequence – as caregivers altering the movement, or observers watching a pollinator who is part of the movement – amounting to an interactive living work that extends far
beyond what I arranged.
